Individualized Education Plan (IEP) Focused Tutoring

Structured academic support aligned with Individual Education Plans (IEPs).

IEP-Focused Tutoring provides individualized instruction designed to support students in Grades 7–12 who have an Individual Education Plan. Instruction is aligned with documented accommodations, learning goals, and classroom expectations, while maintaining appropriate academic standards.

Sessions focus on helping students understand course content, develop effective learning strategies, and apply accommodations consistently and independently. Instruction is delivered by an experienced Ontario Certified Teacher (OCT) with familiarity with Ontario curriculum expectations and IEP implementation.

This service is intended to complement, not replace, school-based supports.

Areas of Focus May Include

• Interpreting and applying IEP accommodations effectively
• Breaking down assignments and assessments into manageable steps
• Strengthening executive functioning skills (organization, planning, time management)
• Developing strategies for reading, writing, and problem-solving
• Supporting self-advocacy and confidence in academic settings
• Reinforcing classroom instruction using alternative explanations or approaches

Guidance for Parents

IEP-Focused Tutoring is most effective when expectations are clear and communication is consistent. Parents are encouraged to:

• Share the most recent IEP and relevant school information
• Communicate current challenges or areas of concern
• View tutoring as ongoing skill development rather than short-term remediation
• Maintain realistic goals focused on progress, not perfection

Tutoring does not modify curriculum expectations or guarantee specific grades, but supports students in accessing the curriculum more effectively and building independence over time.

Service Structure and Delivery

• One-to-one instruction only
• Offered in person or online
• Sessions scheduled one, two, or three hours per week, depending on need
• Focus on consistency, routine, and skill reinforcement
